Shasta County Jail Population

Shasta County Jail population data is reported in several official sources. The sheriff's current jail page gives the facility capacity as 484 prisoners. The BSCC Jail Profile Survey reported an average daily population of 398 for calendar year 2024 and 333 for calendar year 2025 for the Shasta Sheriff's Department jail population. The latest monthly average cited in the research was 274 for December 2025. Those numbers count county jail custody, not CDCR prison custody at Sugar Pine Conservation Camp #9.

The 2025 Grand Jury report adds context that the jail could technically house 484 people, but only 90 percent of beds may be filled because of a court-ordered capacity limit. It also states that some housing pods hold fewer people than their physical space might suggest because classification, behavior, mental health, or safety needs require separation. Visit Shasta County Jail Inmates

Shasta County Jail visitation has both routine rules and a current facility caveat. The custody manual also describes basic phone access rights. General population telephone privileges are available daily.
